Taking off from Asheville North Carolina, COL Robert Morgan banked the Memphis Belle 60 degrees left wing down and flew between the Asheville Court House and City Hall! The distance between the two buildings is 75 feet at their base and the wing span of a B-17 is 103 feet! The B-17 and crew of the Memphis Bell were the first ever to complete their required 25 combat missions, making them eligible to return home.
